Beauti-Tone HardRock® is the fast, easy way to add the beauty and durability of stone to almost any existing surface. HardRock® Deck and Dock is the perfect solution to restore and add a great new look to outdoor wood and concrete surfaces. However, proper application is the key to a great finish for both of these products. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your HardRock®.
Before you begin transforming your surface, it must be clean, dry and in good repair. Make sure you have the right roller and then follow these 3 simple steps:
- Roll on a coat of Textured Primer and let it dry for 30 minutes – longer in cool conditions.
- Roll on your chosen HardRock coating. Apply evenly and let dry until the following day.
- Roll on a coat of sealer and you’ve got a great new look that will last for years!
TIP: Let the product do the work. Don’t push too hard on the roller or your coverage may be uneven.
TIP: Avoid hot & sunny conditions. It is best to apply Weather Shield Flex in the morning or late afternoon.
Proper preparation of the surface is the key to a great looking and rejuvenated deck, dock or patio. Make sure the surface is free of old coatings, then give it a good wash with a power sprayer and Natura Wood Prep Cleaner and allow the surface to dry thoroughly. Now you want to look for any imperfections on the surface. Any raised screw or nail heads must be driven back into the board. Large cracks and holes – including screw holes – should be filled in with Weather Shield Flex Elastomeric Waterproof Compound – essentially a rubber patching material. With your boards prepared as required, you are ready to start applying the HardRock Deck and Dock System.
TIP: Make sure you use the right roller – the Ultra Fab Durocover Pro works great with this product.
1. Apply Wood Shield Flex – the elastic, waterproof barrier that the HardRock adheres to.
Start by coating all edges with a brush, then use your roller to apply evenly along all boards. It is important that all surfaces get covered. Use a brush to apply Wood Shield Flex between boards and on cut ends and let it dry until the next day.
TIP: The Wood Shield Flex coat should be applied in two light coats, 2-4 hours apart and at right angles to each other to ensure even coverage.
2. Apply HardRock Deck & Dock
Make sure the mixture is well blended. Use a brush to coat the edges, then use the roller to apply in generous, uniform coats. Once again, to make sure all surfaces are well-coated, use a brush to apply HardRock Deck & Dock between planks and on cut ends. Let it dry for 4 hours.
3. Repeat Step 2 and then you are done!
With just three easy steps and proper preparation, HardRock and HardRock Deck & Dock will provide durable beauty for years to come. Visit your local Home Hardware to transform any surface in your home or cottage today.
