Cabinets

Cabinets are one of the truly defining features of any kitchen. Because of that, any change you make to your cabinets can result in a dramatic change to the look and feel of the entire room. You don’t have to go to the trouble and expense of replacing your cabinets. Refinishing your existing cabinets can create just as significant a change.

You Know It's Time WhenYou Know It's Time When

If your kitchen cabinets are starting to look dated, or you’ve discovered a fabulous new trend colour you just have to have, it’s time to refinish those cabinets and update the room. Beauti-Tone Designer Series Cabinet & Furniture Paint is the perfect place to start. It’s self-priming and comes in over 3000 colours so you’re sure to find the colour you’re looking for. Plus it is specially designed for the high-traffic and banging your cabinets go through. High quality Beauti-Tone paint and products make refinishing your kitchen cabinets a simple project for even the newest of DIYers.

Prep and Go

Proper preparation is the key to a final result you’ll be thrilled with. Ninety percent of paint failures are due to inadequate or improper prep work. To get your cabinets ready, start by giving them a good cleaning with Natura Safe Prep, a TSP substitute cleanser formulated to get the cabinet ready to accept the new paint. After cleaning, take some sand paper and rough up the surface. You don’t need to sand it right down to the substrate, just scuff it a bit to ensure better adhesion. At this point you should remove the door hardware. (As a side note, this may be a good time to replace the door hardware as well. Chances are if your cabinets are looking dated, so is the hardware.) We suggest taking down the cabinet doors. The paint is designed to be self-levelling and best results are achieved when painted on a horizontal surface like the floor or a countertop. Now heed this advice: don’t scrimp on tools. Sometimes you get what you pay for with brushes and rollers. We suggest using a Beauti-Tone Signature Series Brush with a Mini Microfibre Roller for best results. Now you’re ready to go! Start applying your favourite new colour – we suggest 2 coats – and make the change.

Your Beauti-ful new kitchen is just a few brush strokes away!

Just painted a dresser with Beauti-Tone Designer Series Cabinet & Trim paint and I am totally sold!! Can you please let me know if you still have to use a top coat (polyurethane)? Description on the website makes me believe that not….?

That’s great Kerstin! We would love to see pictures of the project :)
A top coat is not needed with our Designer Series Cabinet and Trim paint as long as properly prep the surface and enough drying time is allowed.

Can this paint be applied to a melamine surface or solely on wood?

We would recommend bringing in a cabinet and talking to the paint expert at your local store. Some cabinets are difficult to finish and your local paint expert will be able to suggest how you should proceed.
