Family-Day-Fun-Header

Family Day is a day set aside to kick back, relax, and spend time with – you guessed it – family. It’s a welcome change of pace in the middle of February since the last statutory holiday was New Years and the next will be Good Friday. Break out of your winter rut and make some memories with your family!

Not sure what to do? Here are a few ideas:960x160_BoardGamesIf the roads are slick or the temperature is bone-chilling, sitting by the fireplace with a hot beverage and a good board game can be the perfect plan. Classics like Monopoly, the Game of Life, or Clue are fun to play if you have a few hours to spare. Settlers of Catan and Scrabble are strategy games to keep your mind sharp. Trivia games like Tribond or Trivial Pursuit are fun to compete individually or in teams. If you are playing board games with young children, Sorry!, Mouse Trap, Rummikub, Chutes and Ladders, Pie Face or Headbanz are bound to keep them entertained.960x160_DIYFor busy bees, DIY projects are great to keep your family occupied. You could accent your home by making place mats or door mats to welcome guests and add something extra to your décor. Artistic families will enjoy creating customized art for their walls or making creative drink coasters. Consider Building a game such as a tic-tac-toe board or a jigsaw puzzle and then testing them by challenging a family member to play.960x160_EasyRecipesIf you and your kids love the smell of freshly baked treats, here are some goodies to try: Mini Apple Raisin Muffins or Cake Pops are easy to make and sweet to eat. For something more substantial, try these creative twists on the old family favourite – Mac and Cheese. Healthy and substantial, Curried Chicken or Belgian Beef Carbonnade are yummy options for lunch or dinner and may be a nice change from your usual meal routine. Or, if meat is not your thing, Vegetable Thai Curry Soup or Samosa Pita Paninis are delicious.960x160_OutdoorFunSnow sports are the perfect way to help you enjoy winter instead of dreading it! Whether you opt for classics like tobogganing, snowball fights and building snowmen, or use your athletic side for ice skating, tubing, snowshoeing, or hockey, your family is sure to have a great time. Bonus: everyone will be thoroughly exhausted & sleep well that night!

No matter what activity you participate in this Family Day, it’s important to spend time with your loved ones and give them a day they (and you) won’t forget.

Weather is the big choice maker, for our family from great nana, grandparents, grandchildren and all ages – that is the most fun part all playing together – if nice snow playing outside, playing pie, sledding, snowmen making and then into the house for homemade soup, buns, squares and hot chocolate. The wee little ones go for a nap, while the others play board games, cards and amazing conversations as everyone gets caught up on what is going on in their lives and sharing and making memories.

Well we already have a puzzle going – but family day will be that – family day. Hope we can do dinner and games – by the fire! Being together is enough no matter what we decide on!

I couldn’t agree more Bev! All that matters is spending time together!
